OHSAA NIL Vote - is your school ready?
In the past 24 hours I've received numerous phone calls with Athletic Administrators, School Principals / Superintendents, Coaches, and others who have asked question regarding the OHSAA referendum that will be voted on this May.
Some of those questions / statements included:
Why is the document from the OHSAA so hard to read?
I have no idea what any of this means?
They're asking us to pay our student-athletes to participate?
What does this mean for this upcoming summer / fall if it passes?
Who is going to track this?
Oh great, just another form we have to fill out for the OHSAA.
We need help...
I feel for all of them, because let's face it, the NIL space is pretty messy. The rules are different in every state, for the governing sport bodies, for colleges, etc...
And one wrong misstep as stated in the referendum means ineligibility for student-athletes.
There are so many moving parts, and I'll continue to try to educate as much as I can, but each district is going to need to start considering their strategy / policy / implementation of resources / education if this moves forward in May.
Because per the referendum, there won't be much time to prepare with an effective date of May 16, 2022 if passed.
